The Educate to Self-Regulate Studio is a 12-month guided process for educators ready to move beyond theory and embed self-regulated learning (SRL) into everyday teaching. Led by Dr Shyam Barr, one of Australia’s key voices on SRL, the Studio supports educators to explore, test, and adapt evidence-informed approaches that fit their unique contexts.
Through this Studio, schools build teacher capacity, align SRL with whole-school priorities, and ensure that policy intent translates into meaningful classroom impact, making SRL achievable, sustainable, and deeply embedded in practice.
What You’ll Experience
Over 12 months, educators will:
Develop a deeper understanding of contemporary approaches for fostering students’ SRL and metacognition.
Develop a shared language about SRL, metacognition and research interventions that promote these ‘how to learn’ skills.
Enhance teaching practice and school structures that support students’ SRL and metacogniton.
Your team will have access to resources to use in your classrooms or to lead in-school professional learning about SRL (e.g., PowerPoint slides etc.)
EXPRESS INTEREST
A Carefully Crafted Experience
The Educate to Self-Regulate Studio follows the below learning arc:
Components of Educate to Self-Regulate Studio:
Workshops
Professionally facilitated by Dr Shyam Barr, these interactive face-to-face (or online) sessions engage educators with theory, discussion-based investigation, and the development of shared language. They are also used as practical demonstrations of how teachers can embed strategies into their teaching.
Action research
The learning arc for the implementation studio mirrors that of a small action research project (based on intervention research methodologies). Dr Shyam Barr will guide school teams in selecting suitable SRL measurement tools, analysing data about SRL, and selecting evidence-based interventions that respond to the data. Teams will conduct these research projects in their schools.
Curated resources
Engagement in the studio is supported by access to a range of resources:
Copies of Educate to Self-Regulate for school teams.
Access to Project SRL – a hub of resources to support implementation of SRL in classrooms and schools, including online modules, extended readings, and classroom examples of implementation.
A private space for school teams involved to share practice and seek feedback in between scheduled workshops.
Designed For School Teams
Designed for teams of 3 of more with at least one individual on the team holding a formal leadership position at the school.
Please note, if you are a small school where fielding a team of 3 is challenging, then please get in touch. While the team design is considered optimal to support implementation efforts, it is not intended to be a barrier to implementation.
INVESTMENT
$4470 - $6470 + GST (depending on team size and chosen format of experience - e.g., virtual or in-person).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
The Educate to Self-Regulate Studio is designed for educators ready to progress their thinking and practice about self-regulated learning. These are individuals keen to lead SRL, whether as a teacher leading SRL within their own classrooms, or for those who are leading the teaching of SRL within cohorts of students or within schools.
-
The Educate to Self-Regulate Studio is a 12-month online professional learning journey that combines workshops, action research, and ongoing collaboration. It’s structured to move educators from understanding self-regulated learning (SRL) theory to implementing and sustaining SRL practice within their own schools.
-
Many educators understand the importance of self-regulated learning (SRL) — but struggle with how to make it visible and teachable in classrooms.
The Educate to Self-Regulate Studio bridges this gap. It provides a guided, evidence-informed pathway for turning SRL theory into daily teaching practice, ensuring impact is felt where it matters most: in student learning. -
This isn’t a typical PD to attend — it’s an experience to build with your team.
The Educate to Self-Regulate Implementation Studio is a 12-month guided process that supports educators to learn, apply, reflect, and refine over time. Participants engage with the latest evidence in cognitive psychology and self-regulated learning, then apply it through structured action research in their own context — ensuring that every strategy tested is linked to real student learning evidence, not just professional reflection.
Each team is supported by Dr Shyam Barr throughout the journey — not only during workshop days. Schools receive structured guidance, curated resources, and optional coaching, so implementation feels both rigorous and relevant, and tailored to each school’s unique context. -
